HAGUE WILLIAMS
Transformation and the catalysts that precipitate change over time are primary sources of motivation for my work. The mechanisms of visual persuasion, such as flags, logos, and emblems: referencing anthems, ritual, and other social-bonding experiences as seen through individual histories, become the organizing principles for my work. As a printmaker and artist using digital technologies, I am predictably interested in such methods of change: Process is an integral part of my work. I am in search of the next translation, the next transformation as it is seen through the eyes of history, by the ones that make and experience or suffer that history. In my most recent work the initial imagery is corporate logos that I transform into mandala-like forms that are reminiscent of ethnic, religious and architectural motifs and patterns. Using a combination of traditional screen-printing techniques and digital technologies. A video projection compliments the prints, in the shape of a rose window. The same patterns and motifs from the prints swirl and move inside the rose window. Creating a stain glass effect that is animated. Contemporary symbols of power continue to blur the distinction between empires, governments, religion, and multinational corporations. I use the same apparatus that the political and business worlds employ in order to reveal certain contradictory aspects of the transformation process often overlooked and hidden in a world that is altering itself at an unprecedented rate. By doing so, I hope to situate some of the responsibility of history-making in the individual artistic process -- showing the complexity of personal history/social experience and its connection to current political, and global change.

Studio Stroll Spring 2006
The Studio doors were flung wide and artists got busy talking to people early Saturday morning during the second weekend in June this year. Twin Cousins kitchen set up early and provided some great food for everyone; fried green tomatoes, crawfish ettouffe, red beans and rice, and a vegetarian ettouffe as well. Bottles of wine were opened, coffee perked, and Ku’umba and David and their band provided us with great musical entertainment.

Flood Gallery Exhibit
The opening of L.A. Contemporary Artist Habib Kheradyar’s exhibition “Southern Veil” was a huge success for the Flood Fine Arts Center. Habib spent time with Flood member Sean Pace, floating down the French Broad collecting indigenous materials to use in his exhibition. During the opening he also did a very dramatic performance piece.
