Joey Sheehan: Melting Mountain Pottery

Art is a form of spiritual healing in which my deepest feelings and emotions can be released and sometimes revealed. Although there are many means of creating and expressing oneself, I have found my passion in clay. It began as just another general art education class and evolved into a way of life. I have to make pots! Sitting and creating at the wheel has become a meditative and freeing process. The possibilities become endless and the need for more is unquenchable. I have found that clay has the ability to absorb energy from the potter, good or bad, and return it to the world in a thing of beauty.

My functional stoneware is a product of my personal experiences and the surroundings in which they have occurred. Nature is beautiful, inspiring and unpredictable. I strive to give these same traits to my pots. My work is a reflection of the immense possibilities brought forth to our reckoning in nature and in life.
