Pump Gallery presents:

dickert

The Pump Gallery presents the ceramic works of Will Dickert opening Saturday, November 5th and running through Wednesday, November 30th, 2011.

There will be an opening reception November 5th from 7-10 pm, and will offer patrons the chance to meet the artist and to tour his working studio.

A native of Bristol, Virginia, Will Dickert now lives and works in Asheville. He received his undergraduate degree with a concentration in ceramics from UNC-Asheville. Dickert then continued his education through UNCA to receive a North Carolina teaching licensure for the Visual Arts. In addition to operating his business and studio in the River Arts District, Dickert teaches ceramics at a local community college, area summer camps and elementary after-school arts programs. The community aspect of being a clay artist is a great resource and inspiration for Dickert, and his art thrives on personal relationships with family, friends, mentors and students.

The exhibit will feature woodfired work of both stoneware and porcelain, and is reflective of a genuine love and intrigue for the materials and firing process. Dickert's work has an extreme connection to natural form, temporal beauty and the interplay between design and utility. The result is thus a range of sculptural and functional pieces on which a variety of slips and glazes are applied. A great effort is made to reveal the true nature and beauty of the materials, and the transformations they undergo due to the direct interaction of clay and fire. Points of both contrast and harmony in the artist’s work are evident through his use of form and function, as well as through the use of applied glazes and naturally occurring effects of the firing process.

Please join the artist in celebrating the opening of this exhibition at the Pump Gallery, November 5, from 7- 10 in the evening. The Pump Gallery, inside the Phil Mechanic Studios, is located at 109 Roberts Street, Asheville, NC 28801, in the heart of Asheville’s River Arts District. The show runs through November 30th.
